(AUDIO) BRETT YOUNG USED WELL-ROUNDED HONESTY TO CREATE DEBUT ALBUM

Anyone who’s heard Brett Young’s first three songs from his debut album, including his latest single, “Like I Love You,” might think it’s an album all about love and heartbreak, and while there are a lot of songs about those subjects on the album, Brett didn’t go into the studio trying to make an album all about love.  He says, A lot of people, when they put their first record out they want there to be like a common theme throughout from song to song. And I wanted to do that as well but not a theme from song to song so much as just the theme being that I like the honesty of it. And so I wanted as much of this record as possible to be kind of an insight into who I am through the music.”

Brett also knew when making his debut album that all the songs couldn’t sound the same and be about the exact same thing, so he kept all that in mind too when writing and choosing songs for the album.  He says, “You still have to fill holes in a record you have to give them tempo, you have to give them ballads, there are things that you have to give them so it’s just been an interesting balance of wanting to tell my story and also make sure that it’s a well-rounded record that, you know, works from top to bottom.”

At the end of the day, honesty about his story was the most important thing, which is why he recorded songs like “Like I Loved You,” about a girl breaking up with him but offering that they can still be friends, which Brett says a lot of people, including himself, can relate to.

“A lot of people, when they put their first record out they want there to be like a common theme throughout from song to song. And so I wanted as much of this record as possible to be kind of an insight into who I am through the music. And so honesty has kind of like been the theme that we’ve been focused on and it’s funny because you still have to fill holes in a record you have to give them tempo, you have to give them ballads, there are things that you have to give them so it’s just been an interesting balance of wanting to tell my story and also make sure that it’s a well-rounded record that, you know, works from top to bottom.”
