(AUDIO) BRETT YOUNG WAS ALMOST A REALITY SINGING SHOW CONTESTANT

Season 17 of The Voice will premiere next Monday, September 23rd on NBC, and one guy who knows exactly how the hopeful contestants will be feeling is Brett Young, who reveals, “I auditioned for The Voice three times and never got the callback either time.”

Brett decided since a reality singing competition wasn’t going to be his path to his career, he would move to Nashville to pursue being an artist, he says, “I got an email saying, you know, ‘We reviewed your tapes, and this season was kind of light, in terms of talent, and you can skip the audition process and move straight to the blinds, to TV. We would love for you to come be a part of the show.’”

Since nothing had started yet in Nashville, Brett accepted the offer, and he says, “I went and did the psych evaluation and everything in L.A. It was like less than a week before I left that I had my first meeting with Big Machine.”

So even though he ultimately did not end up on The Voice, because other doors opened for him in Nashville, Brett says, “I would have done it, absolutely, and would have been so grateful for the opportunity.”

It would be hard to imagine Brett doesn’t believe things happen for a reason.  Even though he was rejected from The Voice, then accepted, and then took a completely different path to where he is today, which is with five consecutive number one songs, with his sixth single, “Catch,” climbing the charts, it all worked out just as it was meant to be.

Brett Young – auditioned for Voice  :30

“I auditioned for The Voice three times and never got the callback either time.  And then, right after I moved to Nashville, I got an email saying, you know, ‘We reviewed your tapes, and this season was kind of light, in terms of talent, and you can skip the audition process and move straight to the blinds, to TV. We would love for you to come be a part of the show.’  And so I said yes, and I went and did the psych evaluation and everything in L.A. It was like less than a week before I left that I had my first meeting with Big Machine. And so yeah, I would have done it, absolutely, and would have been so grateful for the opportunity.”
