CURRENT SINGLE: “Never Wanted to Be That Girl” w/ Ashley McBryde
Carly Pearce has developed a bit of a reputation for not playing it cool whenever she wins an award, which is actually quite endearing. Some people have wondered if her shock and excitement are genuine every time, and Carly says, “Here’s the deal. I don’t know how to fake or compose my reactions to things. You know, like my peers, they’ll get up and they’re like, ‘I’d like to think the Academy of Country Music…’ And I like, stand up and start jumping up and down, hiking my dress up to jump up to win an award. I’m like, ‘OH MY GAWWWD!’”
It’s all as real as it can possibly get in the moment, and Carly says, basically, “The Kentucky part of me just comes out and I’m fine with it. At this point everybody’s seen every ugly face I could ever make.”
We’ve seen it, and we are here for it, and we can’t wait to see the Kentucky come out in Carly if she wins any of the four ACM Awards she’s nominated for, including Female Artist, Album for 29, or Video or Musical Event of the Year for “Never Wanted to Be That Girl” with Ashley McBryde. You can watch the 57th Academy of Country Music Awards, this Monday, March 7th, live from Las Vegas at 8pm ET/7pm CT on Amazon Prime Video.
BONUS BITE:
CARLY PEARCE TALKS ABOUT HER ACM AWARD-NOMINATED ALBUM, 29, WHICH WAS BORN OUT OF ONE OF THE TOUGHEST YEARS OF HER LIFE, WHICH INCLUDED GETTING MARRIED AND DIVORCED IN THE SAME YEAR, AND LOSING HER DEAR FRIEND AND ONLY PRODUCER SHE’D EVER WORKED WITH, BUSBEE, TO BRAIN CANCER
“I think that when something bad happens in your life, you immediately go, ‘Why am I going through this?’ And I didn’t really quite know why I was going through that until somewhere during the release of the first half and seeing the reaction of fans, and now just continuing to see it now that I’m out on the road. I have such a richer relationship with fans now because I feel like they’re able to humanize me through this experience. And something that I never wanted to be a part of my story, which is being a young person that is divorced, I now am so proud to put a face and be a public figure that can maybe humanize that and make it not as scary and, ‘Oh my gosh, you don’t talk about that. You sweep that under the rug’ type of deal. And putting my pain to purpose for other people, I would go through it all again.”
