When Carly Pearce realized she was falling for fellow country music star, Michael Ray, she was able to get great advice from her good friend, Kelsea Ballerini, who is married to fellow country star Morgan Evans. Carly says, “Before it came out I actually talked to her and Maren (Morris) and they were two of the first people that I told, that were in my artist friends circle. And they’ve been great and really encouraged me in the beginning. I was really nervous about just, you take on somebody else’s identity, especially when you guys do the same thing. And I felt like I could go to them.”
Carly, who ended a previous relationship when she realized she was falling for Michael, had the opportunity to watch Kelsea fall in love with Morgan, and she says, “I remember that whole process and I felt very much like what I watched with her was happening to me and she was able to kind of look at me and go, ‘Told you that you weren’t in the right thing before. And now you’re understanding where I am.’ And they just really encouraged me to walk towards that and not be afraid of that and to look at them and say, ‘Yeah, we do the same thing, and look how amazing it is for us.’ So they’ve been really awesome.”
Now Carly and Michael are very much in love, and her new single, “Closer to You,” is a reflection of how she feels about her relationship, always wanting to be closer to Michael when they’re apart, while pursuing their own careers.
