CURRENT SINGLE: “Never Wanted to Be That Girl” w/ Ashley McBryde
When you listen to Carly Pearce’s latest album, 29: Written in Stone, there is no denying that a lot of the songs were inspired by her marriage of less than a year to fellow country singer Michael Ray (married October 2019, split June 2020, divorced September 2020). While some artists might shy away from being so forthcoming with their personal life in their music, Carly says, “I think that’s the only way to do it. I think that’s the only way to be who I am. I’m never gonna be an artist that is gonna act like something never happened to me. Some people do and that’s fine, but my fans wouldn’t have believed that for a second.”
Of course there was some thought and maybe a little hesitation about being so candid and vulnerable about her experience in her songs, but Carly says, “I just jumped into it head first. And it would’ve been very odd if I put out music that had nothing to do with what I just went through when that was such a big part of my life. And so, I’m proud that I just did it.”
Not only did Carly do it, but she did it so well, in such an eloquent and artistic way, that the first half of her album, 29, has been nominated for CMA Album of the year.
