NOW STREAMING – “Creek Will Rise”
Conner Smith was extremely fortunate to grow up in Nashville with a mom who was a TV journalist who covered country music for a living. So, when he decided at the age of six that he wanted to be a songwriter, it was all very normal to his family. Another unique advantage Conner experienced because he grew up in Nashville is that he attended a high school that understood what it means to be in the music business. So, when he signed a publishing deal – which basically meant he got a paying job as a songwriter – when he was still in school, they were very accommodating.
Conner Smith – school understood career :21
“When I’m in high school and I have a publishing deal my junior year, and my school was able to work with me and say, ‘Hey, do your classes and then you can leave at 11:30 and go write songs at 12. Just be back at 4 for the baseball game.’ Even just those little things you don’t think about growing up in Nashville, that really helped me as I was growing up, of just people understanding when I say, ‘Hey, I’ve gotta go write a song,’ what that means.”
