DEBUT SINGLE – “Learn From It”
Conner Smith’s debut single includes a lot of examples of mistakes he made growing up or trouble that he got into and learned from, like breaking a window with a baseball, getting sick the first time he tried to dip tobacco, or saving up to buy a truck and then crashing it within three months. One reason Conner never got away with anything when he was a kid is because he says, “I am like, incredibly bad at hiding things. So, I don’t think I’ve ever done anything I didn’t get in trouble for. I’ve gotten caught for pretty much everything that I’ve done, for better or worse.”
Looking back, Conner is actually thankful he got caught because it helped set him on the right path. Plus, he wasn’t afraid to write about any of his mistakes in “Learn from It” because he says, “None of these lines in this song surprise my parents by any means. There’s a line that says, ‘I guess dad really did count the beers in the basement fridge.’ That happened. I’d try to sneak out a couple of beers and he’d know the next day.”
Conner learned a lot of lessons growing up, some the hard way, but perhaps the biggest thing he says he learned is, “I was never good at hiding the stupid things I did.”
