Drake White was once quoted as saying, “As long as I have somebody telling me that I have to do something, I’m not going to do it.” He admits that he can be a little stubborn, but he says, “I don’t do well when forced and you know, I think it’s the artist in me. I think it’s a lot of different things, but it’s not that I can’t follow an order. If I respect the order and respect the people that are giving them to me, it’s not hard for me. So it wasn’t like a school thing. I wasn’t like a rebellious little jerk kid. It’s not anything like that.”
Drake says his lack of desire to take orders is more about being self-disciplined than it is about bucking authority. “It’s about being grown now and coming out and doing what I want to do when I wake up and I’m a motivated person,” he explains. “So I have to be able to kind of govern myself. It takes discipline to do that. But as far as somebody, you know, me checking in with somebody and somebody looking over my shoulder that’s hard to deal with. Now a competent boss that is giving you a good order and you know you’re chipping away and you are working together in a respectful situation that’s a different story. But yeah I’m a little rebellious in that sense.”
Drake’s self-discipline has served him well up to this point and will come in handy as he releases his brand new song, “Makin’ Me Look Good Again,” off his latest album, Spark.
