Eli Young Band prides themselves on being a band who not only plays live, but also plays on their albums, as opposed to letting studio musicians create their sound and then mimicking it on stage. But Mike Eli points out that it definitely took them some time to figure out that it wasn’t just a matter of repeating what they do in the studio on stage. “I think over time, from those days of our independent records back when we were in college, after being in the studio so much, you figure out the difference in playing on the record and then playing live, and finding the happy medium between the two, I guess, and understanding the differences,” says Mike. “But playing in the studio is a little bit of a different animal compared to playing live, and we’ve gotten better at figuring that out.”
Twenty plus years into their career, Eli Young Band is still learning and always wants to continue to get better. In fact, Mike says, “I hope over time we’ve become more talented and figured out how to be better at what we do. You don’t wanna get worse, that’s for sure.”
