Now that all the guys in Eli Young Band are married and Mike Eli and Jon Jones have kids, they say it has definitely affected the way they tour and the way they travel. Jon says, “It seems like more and more we’re flying back and forth because even that half a day driving is a half a day you could be home if you fly, and so that’s kind of the biggest difference.”
The guys also all agree that being on the road without going home for more than a week is too long, so Jon says, “Even if we’re only home for a day or a day and a half, it’s worth flying home for now, whereas before we were just kind of selfishly out on the road for ourselves and you could leave us out there for six months and that’d be cool. But now anytime over a week we know it’s time to get back.”
One reason it’s important for the guys to get home throughout the tour is because their families rarely come out on the road with them. “Just the way we travel it doesn’t necessarily make the most sense all the time, so it’s changed life a little bit for us but it reminds us why we’re doing this.”
Eli Young Band will be out on the road for most of the rest of the year, with some time off in December for the holidays. You can see a complete list of their tour dates here.

Eli Young Band – families affect touring :41
Jon Jones – “It seems like more and more we’re flying back and forth because even that half a day driving is a half a day you could be home if you fly, and so that’s kind of the biggest difference. I think we all have the same kind of pact at home that over a week is too long to be gone, so even if we’re only home for a day or a day and a half, it’s worth flying home for now, whereas before we were just kind of selfishly out on the road for ourselves and you could leave us out there for six months and that’d be cool. But now anytime over a week we know it’s time to get back. Our families don’t make it out on the road with us that much. Just the way we travel it doesn’t necessarily make the most sense all the time, so it’s changed life a little bit for us but it reminds us why we’re doing this.”
