(AUDIO) Eli Young Band Takes More Uptempo Approach To Latest Album

When Eli Young Band recorded their latest album, 10,000 Towns, featuring their current single, “Dust,” they admit they took a little bit of a different approach than on some of their previous albums, but Mike Eli says, “It wasn’t about fixing anything. I think it was more about being better at what we do. Every record we make we always wanna be the best that we can be and try to learn continually. I think we always wanna be students.”

One of the biggest differences on 10,000 Towns is that they made a conscious effort to find more uptempo songs that would be great additions to their live show. According to Mike, “We didn’t want to lose any songs based on just not having room in the live show for a slow song. So, we’ve done a lot of mid-tempo slow songs on our previous records that we had written so many up-tempo that, you know, that ended up being the majority on this album.”

Chris Thompson says another big difference with this album is the personal state of the band. “I think you can also tell on this record that all four of us are in really good places in our lives,” he says. “We’re real happy and things have been goin’ really well for us, both in our personal lives and in our careers, so there’s a really fun vibe on this record. I think it’s our funnest to date.”

Making this record, one of the biggest differences with this record is we took the approach of really focusing on finding those up-tempo songs and writing those up-tempo songs that could contribute to the live show, ‘cause we didn’t want to lose any songs based on just not having room in the live show for a slow song.
