When you’ve been a band as long as Eli Young Band has – they met in college, 18 years ago – it’d be easy to imagine that there are some songs they have grown tired of having to sing night after night after night, but Mike Eli says their hits never get old. “’Crazy Girl’ and ‘Breaks Your Heart,’ you know the songs that the fans know, they never get old. The ones that get old are the ones that are in the middle, that may be old but some crowds know, some crowds don’t. Those are the ones that kind of get old and then you just flip flop those in and out.”
If you’ve ever seen Eli Young Band perform live and you’ve heard their fans singing their hits back to them as loudly as they can, you understand why Mike says, “When the crowd’s singing the songs to you, it’s hard for them to get old. And we like them, you know. We’ve been really lucky. We never let it happen where they forced us to record something that we have to play forever that we hate.”
One song they definitely love playing live, especially as more and more fans learn the lyrics, is their latest single, “Love Ain’t,” which just celebrated being the #1 song on Sirius/XM The Highway’s Hot 30 Weekend Countdown, and is continuing to climb the Country Songs chart.
