These days Jon Jones gets to wander the country as the bass player of Eli Young Band, but he remembers one time when his wandering caused a bit of a panic. Jon says, “There’s a good story about a beach in Florida where my aunt and uncle lived. My uncle, I think at the time, was a kernel or a general in the Air Force. He was in charge of watching me for the day and I’m a little spacey and get side tracked, still in my adult life. I guess I was just looking down at sea shells and kinda picking them up and putting them down. Not really collecting them, but I was just fascinated by them. I guess I kinda just wandered away. That had gone for maybe about an hour until he realized I was gone. He had the coast guard looking for me and he thought that maybe something had happened to me. He was really, really worried that he was in charge of I don’t know how many thousands of troops, but yet he lost his nephew on the beach.”
Fortunately, Jon was found safe and sound just a couple of hours later down the beach, still wandering, and he says even now in his adult life he still feels like that little boy just wandering down the beach looking at sea shells, which seems rather appropriate since Eli Young Band’s latest single, “Saltwater Gospel,” is all about the beach.
