When Mike Eli isn’t out on the road with the Eli Young Band, playing shows and promoting their latest single, “Break It In,” he loves being a supportive dad to his seven-year-old daughter, Kline, who is into everything from swimming to gymnastics to baseball. And while Mike is there to cheer his daughter on as much as he can be, he says, “As far as being a sideline parent I’m pretty quiet. I’m not a big fan of the aggressive ones. I really wish they would just zip it, honestly.”
Mike isn’t advocating that parents should sit quietly on the sidelines when they’re watching their kids play sports. He says, “You obviously cheer for your kids, but I think that there needs to be a positivity around it versus any kind of negativity, especially when they’re seven. That’s a little too much.”
Essentially, Mike will never be that parent screaming AT his kid or the referee or the umpire, and he wishes other over-zealous parents would abstain from that as well.
