Jaren Johnston is the only father in The Cadillac Three, and he says fatherhood has definitely taught him some things about himself, like the fact that he can exist on a lot less sleep than he ever realized. “The sleep thing, even right now, I’m rolling on about four hours of sleep over the last couple days,” says Jaren. It changes you but you also like, with the job that we do, we’re out here and you don’t sleep a lot anyway so I always feel like my whole life I’ve been prepping for when Jude was born.
Luckily for Jaren, even though his son Jude is in what some would refer to as the terrible two’s, he says, “The patience thing I really haven’t had to deal with yet because he is just over two and he’s just awesome right now.”
Jaren’s bandmate, Kelby Ray, points out that fatherhood has made Jaren a lot more emotional these days, which Jaren completely agrees with. Jaren also says it’s made coming home from the road a lot more exciting. “It’s a lot of fun coming home to (Jude), too. You know, it’s already exciting coming home to my wife. But you come home to this extra thing. Yeah. We have a lot of fun out on the road but it’s like, ‘Oh this is also a new thing and it’s just a lot of fun.”
The Cadillac Three is currently out on the Outlaws and Renegades tour with Travis Tritt and The Charlie Daniels Band, and they’re promoting their brand new song, “Crackin’ Cold Ones with the Boys.”

Jaren – “Oh, definitely. I’m over here crying when you asked me the question, you know what I mean?. No, it’s a lot of fun coming home to that, too. You know, it’s already exciting coming home to my wife. But you come home to this extra thing. Yeah. We have a lot of fun out on the road but it’s like, ‘Oh this is also a new thing and it’s just a lot of fun,”.
Kelby – “By the way, when is Uncle’s Day?”
Jaren – “Kelby and Neil are both uncles.”
Kelby – “We gotta figure that out.”
