Now that all four of the guys in Eli Young Band are married and settled down, Mike Eli says it does make it a little easier to pick songs that resonate with all of them. “I will say that this record was probably a little bit easier. We were probably a little bit more on the same page with picking songs, for the most part on this album.” But he adds, “I think we’ve always been pretty good at being on the same page.”
Jon Jones says it also made it easier to pick songs because now that they’ve had a few hits, the quality of songs they had to pick from, from other writers, was even higher. Plus, he says, “For this record we wrote many more songs than we’ve ever written before and we just brought a lot to the table … and we were really getting pitched the best of the best that were out there, which made us step up our game even more, knowing that if we wanted any of our songs on there, they’d have to match up as good as the other ones. So I think we had a lot of good stuff to pick from and we have a pretty similar ear when it comes to picking songs for the record.”
Eli Young Band’s 10,000 Towns is available now, featuring their #1 song “Drunk Last Night” and their latest single, “Dust.”
