Saturday night, on the final night of their Can’t Say I Ain’t Country Tour, Florida Georgia Line was surprised, during a backstage fan event, by RAC Clark, the Academy of Country Music’s Interim Executive Director, with the news that FGL was being honored with not one, but three of the seven all-new ACM Decade Awards that were handed out this year. FGL has been awarded the ACM Breakout Artist of the Decade Award, ACM Single of the Decade Award for “Cruise,” and ACM Music Event of the Decade Award for “Meant to Be” with Bebe Rexha.
Brian and Tyler were genuinely surprised by the news, and after collecting their trophies, Brian spoke to RAC Clark and the group of family, friends and fans who were gathered backstage. “ACM’s, this is mind blowing,” said Brian. “These are three huge, massive honors. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It really does mean a lot. You know, you think about all the shows played, you think about all the faces melted … (laughter) naw, I’m just kidding! … all the hands shook, all the fans made and met and eye contact every show, all the hours put, all the people it takes, all the days that you might not feel like showing up. These are really special. These are really cool and it’s a amazing humbling way to end this season of life and this tour.”
While FGL did just wrap up their tour for the year, they’ve already announced they’ll be part of the Chillaxification Tour next year with Kenny Chesney and Old Dominion, and they just released their brand new single, “Blessed,” which seems rather appropriate for the occasion. Brian finished up his remarks on behalf of him and Tyler by saying, “(We’re) forever grateful for all of our supporters here, all of our fans. It takes a big team, it takes a massive group and I just think we’re just more inspired than ever. All these good things keep happening. God’s just blessing us. So we’re very proud, but more importantly we’re just thankful for all the people that surround us, that continue to lift us up and allow us to create. It’s the most fulfilling thing, so thank y’all.”
Florida Georgia Line has four more shows scheduled in 2019 at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. The shows are the follow-up to their first successful residency dates in Las Vegas in December 2018.
