debut single: “Wait ‘Til You Have Kids”
Greylan James just released his debut single, “Wait Til You Have Kids,” and he explains how he, a single guy with no kids, and his co-writer, who also doesn’t have kids, wrote such a poignant and insightful song about parenthood.
Greylan James – Wait Til You Have Kids :45
“So, ‘Wait Til You Have Kids’ came from, I’d been on the road a good bit last year and it was my first year of just touring every single weekend. And you know, me being really tight with my family, especially my mom, I was callin’ her, doing my weekly check-in on Sunday when I got back from touring and just being like, ‘Mom, I’m exhausted. Like, you have no idea how stressed, how tired I am. And she was like, ‘Oh, Greylan, you think you’re tired? Wait til you have kids.’ And that kind of became her little theme on our weekly phone calls. And so, I just wrote that little title down in my phone and sat down with my buddy Matt Roy, and we were just talking about how we both hear that a lot going through our 20s. You know, we both don’t have kids but our buddies are starting to have families, and we just started to write that song about how we thought life changes when you do have kids, and how we’re kind of in our last days, hopefully, of being single dudes in our 20s.”
