Hank Williams, Jr. does a lot of songwriting for his albums, but he also relies on the incredibly talented songwriters for some of the material he records. He admits, “When you’re listening to things, they’re gonna send you 40 or 50 to listen to. And in my experience in the last 20 or 30 years, a lot of them are really bad. And that will really motivate you to go, I said, ‘I can write something a hell of a lot better than that.’ And then you go along and then BAM, one comes out- Whoops, that’s me!”
When Hank finds one of those songs that sounds like his life or like a song he could have written, he says, “Then you make it yours. That’s what you gotta do, one that you’re gonna make it yours, and that people say, ‘Of course he did, that’s him, he had to have written that song’.”
It just so happens Hank’s brand new single, “The Party’s On,” is one of the five songs he co-wrote on his latest album, It’s About Time.
