When Hank Williams, Jr. sings the blues, he uses the alias Thunderhead Hawkins, so as to not confuse people. On his latest album, It’s About Time, which features his current single, “The Party’s On,” there’s also a song called “Wrapped Up, Tangled Up in Jesus,” which is very reminiscent of something Thunderhead Hawkins would sing. Hank’s love of the Delta blues is inspired by so many greats like C.L. Franklin, Aretha Franklin’s father. He says, “I listened to him all the time. Jimmy Reed, John Lee Hooker; that’s the ones that inspired me.” And he promises, “We are definitely going to make, in the future, a whole CD of that kind of Delta Blues, Thunderhead Hawkins, preach, whatever you wanna call it.”

Hank Williams Jr – Delta Blues album :36
“You’ve gotta realize dad really is Thunderhead Hawkins. He’s the guy that invented the acoustic set in the music business, because I had to get it across to people that I love to play the blues. We are definitely going to make, in the future, a whole CD of that kind of Delta Blues, Thunderhead Hawkins, preach, whatever you wanna call it. That would’ve been C.L. Franklin, Aretha Franklin’s father. I listened to him all the time. Jimmy Reed, John Lee Hooker; that’s the ones that inspired me.”
