CURRENT SINGLE: “Like A Lady”
Mental health has been a big topic of conversation in the sports world lately with tennis star Naomi Osaka and Olympic gymnast Simone Biles withdrawing from some of the biggest events in their fields, citing mental health concerns. According to Hillary Scott of Lady A, mental health is also becoming a more open topic of conversation in the music world as well. With a year and a half off the road during the pandemic, it gave a lot of artists a chance to step back and think about how they operated, how they were or were not taking care of themselves, and as Hillary puts it, ask themselves, “What about the way the touring world was, and is, what about it can we change?”
While everyone is grateful to be back on the road touring, Hillary admits, “A lot of the times the touring is the most grueling part. It’s the most exciting part, it’s amazing, but a lot of times, I mean, you come back just like in shreds at the end of a long tour.” And she believes, “There is something to be learned about just making sure that we refuel body, mind and spirit, and aren’t just feeling so depleted.”
On a personal level, Hillary took time during the pandemic to really work on her own mental and emotional health, and she says, “I know there’s a lot of movement around that within the music industry – of just making sure that everyone is showing up the healthiest versions of themselves as possible.”

Hillary Scott – “What about the way the touring world was, and is, what about it can we change? Because a lot of the times the touring is the most grueling part. It’s the most exciting part, it’s amazing, but a lot of times, I mean, you come back just like in shreds at the end of a long tour. And it feels strange to say that now having gone so long without it. But, there is something to be learned about just making sure that we refuel body, mind and spirit, and aren’t just feeling so depleted. Journeying more into kind of my own mental and emotional health – and I know there’s a lot of movement around that within the music industry – of just making sure that everyone is showing up the healthiest versions of themselves as possible.”
