debut single: “Wait ‘Til You Have Kids”
“Wait Til You Have Kids” is Greylan James’ debut single as an artist, but chances are, people are already familiar with Greylan as a songwriter, because he’s had songs recorded by Chris Young, Cole Swindell, Darius Rucker, Bailey Zimmerman, and Kenny Chesney, to name a few. But his biggest success to date as a songwriter is Jordan Davis’ #1 song, “Next Thing You Know,” which also won Greylan and his co-writers the ACM Song of the Year Award. Not only did the song change his life, but it also helped shape the kind of music Greylan hopes to make as an artist.
Greylan James – Next Thing changed life :
“’Next Thing You Know,’ I mean, really came out of nowhere. When we wrote that song, we were just tryin’ to write a song about life, and we honestly thought nobody was ever really gonna hear it. It was just gonna be kind of a song that maybe was a B-side on a Jordan album. But it’s just been such a powerful reminder that great songs win, still today. I mean, the song changes choruses every single time it goes through. and it really is, it’s just about life and the progression of it, which is not really the recipe to radio success. But it just really changed all of our minds, and it’s really crazy to hear people’s stories when they hear that song and they come up to me like, ‘Dude! ‘Next Thing You Know’ is about my life. I swear to God you guys wrote it about me.’ And going into my artist thing now and like working on my first album, it really reminds me of what kinda songs I want on my project. To hear those stories about a song that you wrote, it’s game-changing.”
