We all have those things we hang on to longer than we probably should because they’comfortable and feel good, like an old t-shirt or pair of jeans, or an old baseball hat. Lead singer Mike Eli of the Eli Young Band says the one thing he tends to keep as long as possible, and sometimes longer than he should is boots. “There comes a point where once you break those boots in, the way that those boots feel versus every other shoe you wear…”
Even when the boots are showing some serious wear and tear, Mike says it’s hard to get new ones because he thinks, “‘Aww man, I need a new pair of boots, but these are already broken in,’ you know. Especially for us, like with playing on stage. There comes a moment where being comfortable in the boots you wear, it’s an important thing.”
Perhaps Mike can borrow a page from Dierks Bentley’s book, who has been known to duct tape his boots together when they start to fall apart because he doesn’t want to give them up.
Eli Young Band – hang onto boots :20
Mike Eli – “I guess, boots. I feel like that’s a little bit of a cliché answer, but there comes a point where once you break those boots in, the way that those boots feel versus every other shoe you wear. I think it’s one of those things – ‘Aww man, I need a new pair of boots, but these are already broken in, you know. Especially for us, like with playing on stage.
