Jackson Dean’s latest single, “Heavens to Betsy,” is the story of a father who has passed on, who wasn’t the greatest parent to his daughter when he was alive, trying to contact her to redeem himself from the afterlife via CB radio. Of all the directions the song could have gone in, Jackson explains why that story line intrigued him so much.

“’Cause it was heartbreaking. It was truly heartbreaking, and it wasn’t about ‘oh, she left me.’ It was true brutal heartbreak, and it wasn’t, ‘oh I’m so sad.’ It was an answer of action in the afterlife. What drew me to that was that it was just so brutally heartbreaking and in such little words. It’s not a long song and it’s not a lot being said there but there’s so much being said within.”
