All four guys in Eli Young Band bring different things to the table to balance out the group and Jon Jones says, “If we’re ever having a discussion about something, James (Young) has a really good way of kinda being devil’s advocate about it, sometimes bringing the opposite viewpoint to the table, which is a really necessary thing to have when we’re discussing something.”
In the moment some of James’ thoughts or counterpoints might seem a little silly, but Jon says, “Often times, whether it’s deciding on a song or just career direction or whatever, he brings up some really different points that turn out to be really valid ones that help steer us in the right way.”
Fortunately, the longer the band has been together, the more agreeable they all seem to be anyway. For instance, they all agreed that their goal with their latest album should be to add some songs with tempo to their live set, like their latest single, “Dust.”

Eli Young Band – Jon describes James :27
Jon Jones – “James Young is the responsible one of the band. Is anybody taking that seriously? If we’re ever having a discussion about something, James has a really good way of kinda being devil’s advocate about it, sometimes bringing the opposite viewpoint to the table, which is a really necessary thing to have when we’re discussing something. Often times, whether it’s deciding on a song or just career direction or whatever, he brings up some really different points that turn out to be really valid ones that help steer us in the right way.”
