Justin Moore is known for his traditional country sound, but he also knows that he has to be willing to grow and stretch himself and his music if he wants to stay relevant. He definitely pushed his boundaries and got out of his comfort zone on his Kinda Don’t Care album, but he says he was never really uncomfortable. “Uncomfortable maybe a little strong. I’m not maybe as comfortable, if that makes sense, as I am with the things that I’ve done in the past. A lot of the sounds on this record, not necessarily even the songs, it’s more so the way they’re recorded, we went in and did some things, even in post-production, and added things that make the record sound a little different than I’ve ever done.”
The good news is, Justin surrounds himself with people he trusts and who listen to him and he says, “If I was uncomfortable at all it was like, ‘Hey guys, that’s a little too far. Let’s pull it back a little bit. I’ll take y’all pushing me this far but you’ve got to give me this.’ I think the people that I work with, I mean we really are good at being honest with each other, and everybody being open to constructive criticism firing in all different directions, from me to them and vice versa.”
Justin is currently working on his next album, and he says the sound on this new album kind of harkens back to the more traditional sound on his earlier albums. In the meantime, Justin’s more traditional sounding single, “Kinda Don’t Care,” continues to make its way up the charts.
