When you record a song as emotional as Justin Moore’s latest single “The Ones That Didn’t Make It Back Home,” it’s inevitable that people who share a personal connection to the song might want to share that with Justin. Regularly hearing such sad stories might seem difficult after a while, but Justin says, “I don’t know if it’s difficult to deal with. I’m honored that somebody would want to share such a personal story with me just because I sing a song that maybe helped them when they were going through something.”
Some of the stories of soldiers who didn’t return home from serving our country come from parents, and Justin says, “Especially as a parent, it’s hard to hear and it just makes you feel so terrible. It rips your heart out and [makes you feel] guilty at times because, you know, I have four healthy babies right now and hopefully that’s something that will last forever.”
As emotional as it can be sometimes, the one thing Justin never wants to do is discourage anyone from sharing their stories of how his song has touched their life. He says, “I wouldn’t say it’s difficult because I wouldn’t want to make anybody feel like I don’t want to hear the story, but it just is gut wrenching to hear. It just makes you feel bad for people.”
“The Ones That Didn’t Make It Back Home” is the first release off of Justin’s fifth studio album, which he’ll release next year.
