(AUDIO) JUSTIN MOORE IS NO TEACHER AND HOPES HIS KIDS CAN SAFELY RETURN TO SCHOOL

Justin Moore, like parents all over the country, is grappling with sending his kids, who are 10, 8, 6 and 3, back to school.  He says, “As of right now, they’re supposed to start in person here in a week or two.  You know, who knows how long that’ll last.  I hope a while.”

One thing Justin says he’s learned during this pandemic is, “I need to give a lot more respect to teachers than I already did, and I thought I did a pretty good job of that to begin with.”

But when it comes to homeschooling, Justin says he’s learned, “I am no teacher.  I was a pretty good student, but I’m not a very good teacher, I can promise you.  My ten year old, who will be going into fifth grade, she was doing fourth grade work at the time, obviously, and she kept coming to me with math problems, and I said, ‘Sissy, you’re gonna have to go ask your mom.  Come to me for English and history, but math and science, like, I’m out.”

Justin and his family live in Poyen (pronounced PO-en), Arkansas, which is a very small, rural community, so he says, “I don’t think there’ll be any more than 10 kids in each of my children’s classes.”

He wants everybody to be as safe and responsible as possible when it comes to dealing with the coronavirus and deciding whether or not to send your kids back to school, but Justin also sees the downside of not having kids in school.  “I’m concerned about my kids fallin’ behind, from an educational standpoint,” says Justin, “because Kate and I are not professionals.  I mean, we can do the best that we can.  Plus, I’m one of those guys that believes that the social experiences really, really matter, especially to kids right now.  So, I’m hopeful that they get to continue throughout the year, but we’ll see.  You know, we’ll just take it as it comes.”

This is going to be a pretty big week for Justin, because not only will his kids be going back to school, but he’s on the verge of having his ninth #1 song of his career with “Why We Drink,” so perhaps he’ll be able to raise a glass and celebrate both events simultaneously.

“I’ve learned that I need to give a lot more respect to teachers than I already did, and I thought I did a pretty good job of that to begin with.  But, when we got shut down in March, obviously, the kids had to come out of school and I am no teacher.

“Yeah, as of right now, they’re supposed to start in person here in a week or two.  You know, who knows how long that’ll last.  I hope a while, but we’re fortunate that where we live, it’s so rural and so small that I don’t think there’ll be any more than 10 kids in each of my children’s classes.  So, I hope for them that that continues.  And I want not only our community but everyone to be as safe and responsible as possible, but at the same time, I’m concerned about my kids fallin’ behind, from an educational standpoint because Kate and I are not professionals.  I mean, we can do the best that we can.  Plus, I’m one of those guys that believes that the social experiences really, really matter, especially to kids right now.  So, I’m hopeful that they get to continue throughout the year, but we’ll see.  You know, we’ll just take it as it comes.”
