On its surface, Justin Moore’s latest single, “Kinda Don’t Care,” is about a guy who goes out to the bar and is trying to get over a woman, and Justin says he can definitely spot that guy at his shows. “Yeah, it’s usually the guy that’s holding the beer up real high, with his eyes closed, like shaking his head ‘yeah,’ you know, looking down at the floor bobbing his head, he’s feeling it, he’s feeling it.”
But to Justin, “Kinda Don’t Care” is bigger than just that guy. He says, “That song to me is fun. And kind of the mark of a good song to me, is because you can take it literal like that, like he’s trying to get over somebody, or to me, I found it a little more even tongue in cheek. This is about a guy who doesn’t sound like he’s in a committed relationship any longer, but even somebody like me or my wife, it doesn’t have to be a guy, you bust your hump all week working and getting the kids to school and wiping babies rear ends and all that. And sometimes you just want to go out, and hang out, and drink a couple too many beers, and not have the responsibility for a night or two.”
So whether you’re the actual guy Justin sings about in the lyrics of “Kinda Don’t Care,” or you’re just someone who could stand a night to let loose and have fun, Justin hopes everybody can enjoy his song in their own way.
