Justin Moore’s latest song, “Kinda Don’t Care,” sounds like a party song about a guy just looking to have a good time, but if you pay attention to the lyrics, then in the second verse it’s really about a guy who’s trying to get over the memory of a woman who broke his heart. Justin knows some people may miss that aspect of the song, but he’s cool with it. Some people are more focused on melody and others pay close attention to the lyrics and Justin says, “I think there’s also fans that do both of those things, that listen to them and really don’t pay attention. My wife is a prime example. She’s really good at picking songs and hits and has picked some of mine. She can’t tell you one lyric in any song. She don’t really even pay attention.”
Justin thinks the best songs allow people to interpret them in their own way and apply them to their own life. For instance, Justin says with “Kinda Don’t Care,” “Obviously the heartbreak thing’s there, but I listen to it from my perspective and relate it to my life in this fashion. I come home every day, I do the right things, I make dinner, I bathe the kids, I’m a good dad, I’m a good husband. Every now and then I just want to go tear it up with the guys. I want to go play in a golf tournament and drink 14 beer and play 27 holes, and so that’s kind of the way I interpret the song.”
So if people don’t get that “Kinda Don’t Care” is really a heartbreak song, he doesn’t mind at all. He says, “I think however you interpret the song is kind of up to you and I think that’s one of the things that make really good songs.”

“There are artists who care more about melody, groove, etc., and there are artists who care more about the lyric. And I think there’s also fans that do both of those things, that listen to them and really don’t pay attention. My wife is a prime example. She’s really good at picking songs and hits and has picked some of mine. She can’t tell you one lyric in any song. She don’t really even pay attention. I think songs are great when people interpret ‘em differently, and this song to me, obviously the heartbreak thing’s there, but I listen to it from my perspective and relate it to my life in this fashion. I come home every day, I do the right things, I make dinner, I bathe the kids, I’m a good dad, I’m a good husband. Every now and then I just want to go tear it up with the guys. I want to go play in a golf tournament and drink 14 beer and play 27 holes, and so that’s kind of the way I interpret the song. So, I think however you interpret the song is kind of up to you and I think that’s one of the things that make really good songs.”
