Justin Moore credits his mom with inspiring his latest #1 song, “Why We Drink,” because when he and his wife were out to dinner one night with his parents, and he was enjoying a few cocktails since he wasn’t driving, his mom asked him, “Why do you drink so much?” Justin took the idea to a writing session with David Lee Murphy, Casey Beathard and Jeremy Stover, and the song was born. But Justin admits, “I didn’t give her any writin’ credit, but I’m gonna have to give her a plaque or buy her a purse or somethin’.”
Even though Justin’s mom wasn’t sure how she felt about her son telling people she inspired him to write a drinking song, Justin says, “She’s gotten a kick out of it. She did have reservations about being in the video because she absolutely hates being interviewed or being a part of any part of the ‘air quote’ business, if you will. She just likes to stay in the background. My dad on the other hand, would’ve eaten it up. But we got her in the video for a small cameo and I thought she did a good job.”
