(AUDIO) LADY A CREDITS THEIR FANS FOR CHOOSING THEIR THREE-WEEK NUMBER ONE SONG, “CHAMPAGNE NIGHT”

CURRENT #1 SINGLE: “Champagne Night”

Lady A just celebrated three weeks at #1 on the charts with “Champagne Night,” the song they found and recorded when they appeared on NBC’s Songland.  At the time, their current album, Ocean, was only five months old, but Hillary Scott says the decision to release “Champagne Night,” instead of a song that was on their album was really determined by the fans.  “I mean, we really have the fans of the show and our fans to thank for choosing this song because they showed us, really in those first few days after the show aired, just how much they loved it,” says Hillary.

When the song continued to stay near the top of the iTunes chart and the number of times fans were streaming the song continued to grow, Hillary says, “It was a huge indicator that it was really connecting with people.  And so, I really think once we saw that, is when we internally spoke about, well, let’s put this out to radio because it just feels like the right move and the fans seem to really love it.  And so, really, I mean they kind of showed us what to do next.”

Charles Kelley agrees, and he also feels like the timing of the song and choosing to release it was somewhat serendipitous. “When we really decided to actually put it out as a single, you know, our first thought, of course, was oh, this is gonna be great for the live show,” says Charles.  “But now, I’m so glad lookin’ back that we did it because during, you know, a pandemic and everybody’s inside, it’s kinda the whole story is about makin’ a party wherever you are.”

Lady A is currently in the studio working on new music, and they’re hopeful that before too long, they’ll finally be able to get out on the road and play “Champagne Night” live, like they envisioned doing when they first heard the song on Songland.
