(AUDIO) LADY A DEFINITELY ENJOYED SOME OF THE PERKS OF WRITING SONGS OVER ZOOM

CURRENT  SINGLE: “Like A Lady”

Lady A wrote and recorded the majority of their What A Song Can Do album during the pandemic.  “I mean, we obviously had more time than we’ve ever had. You know, when the world shut down, we all just looked at each other and went, all right, I guess we gotta write.  If we can’t tour, we gotta write.”

When everybody was keeping their distance, Lady A had to resort to writing songs over zoom, and Charles Kelley says, “I remember that first zoom write was very odd.” “Super awkward,” added Dave.

After a while though, Charles learned to love the convenience of writing over Zoom.  “It just kinda slowly, you got into a rhythm,” he says.  “And I remember at one point, it was probably the fourth or fifth one that I had done. And we wrote a verse and a chorus, and I was like, ‘Hey, my boy wants to go out and swim and eat some lunch. And whoever we were working with was gonna work up the demo a little bit “

In normal times, Charles would either hang out in the room while the other person worked on the demo, or they would all go home and set up another time to get back together on another day.  But writing on Zoom allowed Charles to make the most of his time with the writers, while also being able to take a break to take care of other things, and then rejoin the write later, without ever having to leave his house.  After realizing that, he said, “Man, I could get used to this.”
