(AUDIO) LADY A LOVED HELPING TO CRAFT THEIR LATEST SINGLE ON NBC’S SONGLAND

Lady A’s latest single, “Champagne Night,” is a song they discovered while appearing on NBC’s hit show, Songland, which gives aspiring songwriters a chance to pitch their songs to superstar artists, like Lady A. Charles Kelley loved the experience of being on the show, because he says, “My favorite thing about Songandis the light that it sheds on the songwriting process. A lot of people always ask me how do you write a song, and there’s no right or wrong way of doing it.”

With “Champagne Night,” the song was first presented to the band by aspiring singer/songwriter Madeline Merlo.  During the show, she worked with hit songwriter Shane McAnally and Lady A to transform her version of the song, which she originally titled “I’ll Drink to That,” into the hit song we hear on the radio today.

Charles loves to co-write with people because he says, “You bring in these basic song ideas and you’re gettin’ to co-write and pull out what’s best and what doesn’t work and make the best song possible, and I think that’s what we did with ‘Champagne Night.’”

Lady A – Songland experience  :33

Charles Kelley – “My favorite thing about Songland is the light that it sheds on the songwriting process. A lot of people always ask me how do you write a song and there’s no right or wrong way of doing it, but I will say the more you do it the better you become at it. You kind of just know the ins and outs of how to get to a hook and how to get to the right melody.  I mean, I love co-writin’, you know, and that’s one fun thing about it. You bring in these basic song ideas and you’re gettin’ to co-write and pull out what’s best and what doesn’t work and make the best song possible, and I think that’s what we did with ‘Champagne Night.’”
