(AUDIO) LADY ANTEBELLUM KNEW “WHAT IF I NEVER GET OVER YOU” SHOULD BE FIRST

Lady Antebellum’s forthcoming album, Ocean, is full of some really incredible and beautiful and powerful songs, but when it came to choosing the first song off the album, they knew their current single, “What If I Never Get Over You” was the right choice.  They didn’t write the song, but as Charles Kelley explains, “We were writing with Laura Veltz. I said, ‘Laura, you and Jon Green, y’all write so much stuff that feels like it could come from us.’ And I said, ‘Send me anything and everything you got.’ And sure enough, this was the first song she sent, and I was like, ‘Holy crap!  This is a monster.’”

Ryan Hurd was also a co-writer on the song, and he was singing the demo, and Charles says, “I just immediately, I had the idea, I said, ‘This is a duet. The duet’s going to make it even more heartbreaking. What if I never get over you and what if it’s both people are feeling the same thing? Like maybe they missed out on this thing.’”

While there is a lot of incredible material on their new album, Lady Antebellum felt like “What If I Never Get Over You” best represented where they were headed with their new album, which was kind of back to some of their earlier sounds in songs like “Need You Now,” “I Run to You” and “American Honey.”  Charles says, “We had a lot of other really special songs that we recorded. But to me it’s probably my favorite thing we’ve put out since around those second, third records. You know, we’ve taken a lot of chances and tried a lot of different things like ‘You Look Good’ and ‘Bartender,’ which has been huge for our live show, but I do think at the core of us, it’s definitely more of this type of a sound.”

Ocean will be Lady Antebellum’s first release on BMLG Records, and it will be available on November 15th.
