Lady Antebellum has hinted that their next album is going to be a lot more personal and vulnerable. Charles Kelley says part of that comes from the band taking a moment to do some self-reflection. “We really did have, there for a little moment, a tough time. We’ve got all these kids, all this responsibility, we’re all going through these changes and kind of having that moment of like, gosh man, have we accomplished everything we’re gonna accomplish? And it was the three of us did some healing and got together and got so close. We feel like we’ve finally been writing again from a really honest place.”
Even longtime fans may be pleasantly surprised to hear the layers that Lady Antebellum pulls back in some of the songs on their new album. Charles says, “There’s definitely some layers that people, when they hear this record, are gonna be like, ‘Wow.’ There’s some deeper stuff in there, and even some dark stuff things that we went through.
One thing that allowed Lady Antebellum to go deeper on their next album was the decision to not to focus on just writing hit songs, but rather to focus on writing the most honest songs that they could. “It just feels like a good refreshing time to get some new perspective and let’s see where we can go,” says Charles, “let’s take some chances. We don’t have to always be the biggest thing in the world but I want to rest my head and go, ‘Man, we put out something bold and took some chances and it really reacted.”
“What If I Never Get Over You” is the first single off of Lady Antebellum’s new album, which they’ll be announcing more details about soon.
Lady Antebellum – writing deeper
Charles Kelley – “We really did have, there for a little moment, a tough time. We’ve got all these kids, all this responsibility, we’re all going through these changes and kind of having that moment of like, gosh man, have we accomplished everything we’re gonna accomplish? And it was the three of us did some healing and got together and got so close. We feel like we’ve finally been writing again from a really honest place. And, I mean, there’s definitely some layers that people, when they hear this record, are gonna be like, ‘Wow.’’ There’s some deeper stuff in there, and even some dark stuff things that we went through. And it just feels like a good refreshing time to get some new perspective and let’s see where we can go, let’s take some chances. We don’t have to always be the biggest thing in the world but I want to rest my head and go, ‘Man, we put out something bold and took some chances and it really reacted.”
Hillary Scott – “It was really authentic.”
Charles – “Yeah.”
