Lady Antebellum’s new single, “What I’m Leaving For” is deeply personal to the band because it reflects their life as traveling musicians, but they’ve found out that it resonates with so many parents for different reasons. According to Charles Kelley, “I’ve personally gotten so many, just responses from friends and all kinds of different people going, ‘Man, that song really speaks to me.’”
Whether it’s parents who travel for a living, or parents who are away serving in the military, or even parents who have to leave their kids every day to go to work, so many of them gravitated toward that song when Lady Antebellum released their Ocean album. According to Hillary Scott, “When we released the album, I saw a lot of, like, people hash tagging that song. And I even saw a family, they were going on a road trip or something, but that song was really speaking to the mom. And the dad was driving, she was in the passenger’s seat and they just had the song on and they were filming, like, on their way to a family vacation or a weekend away or something. And it was just so neat to see other people … you know when they relate to it so much that that becomes the soundtrack of their life, it goes so far beyond just the music. It’s their memories.”
If you haven’t seen the video yet for “What I’m Leaving For,” it features Charles, Dave and Hillary’s kids and it is absolutely adorable. You can watch it now on Lady A’s YouTube page.
Lady Antebellum – what I’m leaving for resonates :
Charles Kelley – “I’ve personally gotten so many, just responses from friends and all kinds of different people going, ‘Man, that song really speaks to me.’ I mean, our security got Chip, this big old strong dude, and we’re like, ‘What’s your favorite song?’ And he goes, “What I’m Leaving For.’ I was like, ‘You’re just a big softy.’ But it’s like, we all have that and feel that in some way, and the song just feels like something that could’ve been on our first couple records.
Hillary Scott – “Yeah, it’s got that warmth. And honestly, we always pay attention to social media and like, what we see on Instagram. And when we released the album, I saw a lot of like people hash tagging that song.
