Lady A’s latest album is called Ocean, and on a deeper level, Hillary Scott feels like it’s a bit of a metaphor for the group and how they walk through life together. “When you’re in a working relationship like we have, and a creative relationship like we have, I mean, we all have lives that we go home to out of this,” says Hillary, “that impacts who we show up as every day, and like, giving each other grace in that and walking arm in arm through it. And there has been a lot of times we’ve walked arm and arm through a wave crashing down, and we’ve been skipping through. You know, it’s all of it.”
Naming Lady A’s latest album Ocean was also special to Hillary because she says, “Some of my most favorite memories growing up as a little girl were at the ocean. So, I think there’s a little bit of that feeling, like, I’m accessing … it’s hard to explain … coming home.”
While all of those explanations for naming the album Ocean are special and significant, Charles Kelley keeps it real and says, “We also just thought it sounded cool,” which Hillary also agrees with.
Lady A’s latest single, “Champagne Night” is a song they discovered on the NBC show Songland, after they released Ocean, so it did not make it onto the album.
