Hillary Scott of Lady A knows how lucky she is having Linda Davis, who was also a country music singer, as her mom. “My mom‘s experience in country music, and specifically in Nashville, has been paramount for me,” says Hillary.
Perhaps best known for singing the 1993 hit, “Does He Love You,” with Reba McEntire, Linda Davis has been a wonderful example for Hillary in so many ways. “I think not only the way she carries herself and her work ethic and the grace that she’s had through all of these years that she’s been doing it, but also the women she surrounded herself with too,” says Hillary, “and just being able to glean from them. You know, Reba for example, being such a huge, not only just inspiration for me, but a place of sound counsel, just being able to really learn and ask questions.”
One of the biggest things Hillary gets from her mom is support and understanding from someone who knows exactly what Hillary is going through sometimes. A lot of it is encouragement, going, “Keep doing it. You can do this. I know it’s hard.”
Hillary’s mom was the first person she called after Lady A was invited to become members of the Grand Ole Opry, because she remembers her mom leaving home when she was a kid, to go to Nashville to play the Opry, so in some ways it was like a full-circle moment.
