NOW STREAMING: “Huntin’ Season” and “Jesus I’m Jealous”
Mackenzie Carpenter is a beautiful girl who likes to write songs about the truth as she sees it, even though the truth ain’t always pretty.
Mackenzie Carpenter – tacky country :56
“So, I like to say that the truth is tacky, no matter what way you cut it. Everything that you do is not gonna be a perfect, beautiful visual. You’re gonna see that in the songs that I sing, you’re gonna see that in the pictures that are presented, and the videos. You cannot be perfect all the time. And sometimes you’re having the worst day, and you just gotta zip it up and move on and let yourself be tacky, whether it’s a growth on your face, whether it’s the outfit that you have on, whether it’s your attitude– the truth is tacky, and I will go down swinging with that phrase. I want to stand up for people telling their truth, and being who they are, and not feeling like they have to show up and change or be a different way because of something that somebody says. There were times where I grew up being like, people are gonna think that I’m weird, or people think that this is weird. And then once I started embracing it, and being like, screw it, I’m tacky, is when I really found my voice.”
While it’s done very tongue in cheek, Mackenzie definitely sheds a little truth about what the mice are doing at home while the cats are away during “Huntin’ Season,” so to speak.
