NOW STREAMING: “Don’t Mess with Exes”
Mackenzie Carpenter’s brother, Micah, is a talented songwriter and guitar player. Last summer, he joined Conner Smith’s band when Conner was opening for Thomas Rhett, but now that Mackenzie is on tour with Conner, family comes first, so Micah has joined Mackenzie’s band, which was pretty much the plan all along.

“I have just always wanted him to do what was best for him, and what the best opportunity for him was. But at the end of the day, we are siblings and we write a lot together. We have a very specific trust in each other and comfortability with each other. Like, when he’s playing with me, I know it’s taken care of, I know it’s gonna go right. And even if it doesn’t, he’s gonna follow me. There’s not gonna be some awkward pause on stage. He wrote some of the songs, so I think it’s really meant to be. And I just feel a lot safer, even traveling with him. There’s no weirdness. It’s just the perfect combo.”
Mackenzie will be opening for Conner through April 22, but she has plenty of her own dates lined up after that, so it looks like Conner won’t be getting Micah back any time soon.
