Maddie & Tae’s video for their latest single, “Fly,” features the girls sitting on chairs that are affixed to a wall about 10 feet above the ground. The visuals in the video represent the sentiment of their song and Tae Dye says, “It’s really special to find a director who understands where you’re going and understands your ideas and kind of takes your ideas and makes them even better, and that’s exactly what Brian Lazaro did.”
Tae says it was the chair scene that drew them to Brian’s video treatment. They also loved the images of the ladder and all the imagery in the video that symbolized life’s struggles and climbing through the phases of life. She says, “It was so important for us, ‘cause that’s exactly what we were trying to say with ‘Fly’. So, the music video completely just emphasized that and we love it. And fans are loving’ it.”
One challenge Maddie & Tae faced while filming the video was sitting in the chairs with no harnesses or safety straps, but Maddie says, “I wasn’t really nervous because I was really focused on making sure the emotions came across correctly. Tae and I poured our hearts into this song and we wanted to do the same for the video, but secretly I really, really did not want that chair to fall off the wall.”

Tae Dye – “It’s really special to find a director who understands where you’re going and understands your ideas and kind of takes your ideas and makes them even better, and that’s exactly what Brian Lazaro did. We’re so thankful that we found him and he was great to work with. What drew us into his treatment, his idea for ‘Fly’ was the chair wall scene and just every idea he had with the ladder and every symbolic idea of life’s struggles and at every phase of each life. It was so important for us, ‘cause that’s exactly what we were trying to say with ‘Fly’. So, the music video completely just emphasized that and we love it. And fans are loving’ it.”
