Maddie & Tae are two cute, young 18 year olds, but when you listen to some their songwriting you get the sense that they may be young girls with old souls. Even in their current single, “Girl in a Country Song,” they’re poking fun at some of the clichés in today’s country music, but at the same time they’re longing for the days of country music by legends like Conway Twitty and George Strait.
People often tell them they seem to have old souls and Tae says, “I think, you know, we started traveling back and forth to Nashville when we were 15 and 16, and so we definitely had to grow up fast and figure out what we wanted to prioritize in our lives.”
They don’t mind the sacrifices they’ve made and having to grow up a little quicker for music. “I think pretty much both of us knew at an early age that singing and being an artist is the career that we wanted to pursue,” says Maddie. “You know, all your friends are like, in school and having school mind and we kind of had to grow up quick. Have a different mindset, which is fine with us.”
As much as they like to giggle and have fun, Tae says, “We aren’t very good at being teenagers.”
