Maddie & Tae are spending their summer on the road with Dierks Bentley, Kip Moore and Canaan Smith on the Sounds of Summer Tour, and since some of their tour mates were already pulling pranks on one another before the tour even started, they’ve given some thought to how they might get in on the prank war if they have to.
They actually heard about a pretty gross prank involving catfish bait from someone else. Tae says, “I feel like this would just be awful, cause first of all it would ruin your show and probably ruin your smelling for the rest of your life.” Apparently you take the catfish bait and rub it on your target’s microphone after they soundcheck, so that, as Tae explains, “After someone goes on stage and is about to perform for an hour, they’re singing on a catfish microphone. Ewwww!”
Maddie feels like a hard core prank like that would be their way of making a statement that they are not to be messed with, although Tae says they’d probably leave some sort of cute note that said, “Ha! Ha!” Better yet, they could frame one of their tour mates like Kip Moore for the prank.
After sharing their idea, Maddie realized they may have given away their whole prank plan, but Tae teased with a devilish grin, “Or did we?”
We’ll have to see if they actually get brave enough to pull off the catfish microphone prank, but in the meantime, Maddie & Tae are looking forward to releasing their debut album, Start Here, on August 28th, featuring their latest single, “Fly.”

Maddie & Tae – prank plan :51
Maddie – “Can I tell you the one that I want to do? Well somebody already did this …”
Tae – “Yeah, we’ve heard about this, and I feel like this would just be awful, cause first of all it would ruin your show and probably ruin your smelling for the rest of your life. There are people who actually get like, fish …”
Maddie – “No, it’s like catfish bait. Y’all know how bad catfish bait smells.”
Tae – “And they rub it, they rub it on the microphone after soundcheck, so like after someone goes on stage and is about to perform for an hour, they’re singing on a catfish microphone. Ewwww!”
Maddie – “I want to do something like that though, cause that’s like, we are standing our ground. We are gonna make your microphone stink and everything else stink on your bus.”
Tae – “But knowing us, we would probably leave a little note that said, ‘ha ha! Like that gave it away.”
Maddie – “Or, we could frame Kip Moore!”
Tae – “That’s what we oughta do.”
Maddie – “There’s our plan. So we just revealed our whole entire prank, but that’s okay.”
Tae – “Or did we?”
Maddie – “Ohhhh! (laughs)”
