CURRENT SINGLE: “Sunrise Tells the Story”
When the members of Midland first got together, they were all pursuing separate music careers, but felt like there was a special musical chemistry between the three of them, so they booked a recording session to test the theory. “We went to the Sonic Ranch, and we had decided we wanted to experiment,” says bassist Cameron Duddy. “We had these songs Jess had written, Mark had written, that were in the ether. And we decided let’s just go out there and see… Let’s just have a fun week. We booked 10 days in the studio. We didn’t really have any designs after that. It was just, let’s just go and record these songs.”
At the end of the ten days, Cameron says, “Talk about these kind of life-changing experiences. For me, it’s like getting married, having a child and this Sonic Ranch session. I can still remember the feeling. It’s palpable. It’s totally three dimensional for me, you know.”
Midland recorded a bunch of songs and captured musical magic in those ten days at Sonic Ranch, and Cameron says, “It was just this unsaid understanding that when we left there we were gonna continue on with this project.”
Midland released The Sonic Ranch documentary and soundtrack last year chronicling that initial 10-day recording session, and now they’re preparing to release their third studio album, The Last Resort: Greetings From, featuring their latest single, “Sunrise Tells the Story,” on May 6th.
