(AUDIO) MIDLAND ON STAGE IS DIFFERENT FROM MIDLAND OFF STAGE, BUT THEY AREN’T “CHARACTERS”

CURRENT SINGLE – “Sunrise Tells the Story”

Some artists say that when they step on stage, they almost become a different character, like Beyonce, who calls her on-stage persona Sasha Fierce.  Midland’s lead singer, Mark Wystrach, says they don’t really become characters when they’re on stage.  “You are performing, and it is an extremely heightened sense of yourself,” explains Mark.  But he says, “It’s not a gimmick.”

Perhaps the best way to describe it, is that when Midland is performing, they are definitely “on” and their showmanship is turned up to 11, but Mark thinks you almost have to be two versions of yourself when you’re an artist.  “I don’t think you want to be Jess, Mark and Cam on stage and Midland at the restaurant,” says Mark. “I think that would be obnoxious. Can you imagine the waiter’s just trying to take your order and you’ve got Cameron thrusting his hips at you? You know, stuff like that, spillin’ his water and drinks all over the place.”

So, when you see Midland on stage, it’s authentic, but on a whole other level.

Midland – on stage characters  :20
