CURRENT SINGLE: “Sunrise Tells the Story”
Midland’s latest single, “Sunrise Tells the Story,” is about two people who hook up one night, and the next morning, the sunrise kinda shines light on what happened between them the night before, and where things might be heading the next day. While it was Midland’s Jess Carson who had a hand in writing the song, his bandmate, Cameron Duddy totally relates to it, because he says, “That’s how I met my wife. It really was. It was the first date.”
Despite the fact that the morning after was a little awkward between them for a couple of reasons, Cameron and his wife have been married for eight years now. But he remembers, “The next morning in her apartment, my alarm clock for work – for me they were just bells – but they were wedding bells, I guess, the alarm clock noise.” Cam says, “I just thought they were bells. And I remember like kind of waking up and looking over, and she was like, ‘Are those wedding bells?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah.’”
So that was both funny and awkward, but then Cameron says, “I got up and I left, and she was like, ‘Oh my God, he just kinda left without saying goodbye. Wow.’ But then her door opened again and I came back in, and I was like, ‘Yeah, I have a toothbrush in my car. I’m just gonna go back here and brush my teeth before I head out to work.’”
That awkward morning after was the start of Cameron and Harper dating and eventually getting married. He laughs and says, “I was kinda the guy that just never left. In fact, I ended up moving into her house when she was at work, like three weeks later.”
So, while some people might think Midland’s song, “Sunrise Tells the Story,” doesn’t seem like the most promising way to start a successful relationship,” Cameron disagrees and says, “Sometimes those one-night-stands turn into like, a lifetime-stand.”
