NEW SINGLE: “Longneck Way to Go w/ Jon Pardi”
Midland’s brand new single, “Longneck Way to Go,” featuring Jon Pardi, is off their latest album, The Last Resort: Greetings From, and even though they have their own unique sound in country music, lead singer Mark Wystrach says there really isn’t a singular way to sum up the sound of their latest album. “It really is hard to pinpoint what the sound is on this album, The Last Resort: Greetings From, because it really is almost like the soundtrack to go and get lost at a place. It really does run you through so much.”
Just looking through the track list, Mark says, “I mean, ‘Paycheck to Paycheck’ is balls to the wall ZZ Top. It’s actually probably one of our most modern songs, I’d say, that we’ve ever recorded. You have a song like ‘The Last Resort,’ which is a full tip of the hat to Jimmy Buffett and going full gulf and western. You’ve got a song like ‘King of Saturday Night,’ which is Midland doing their Stones thing. You have ‘Life Ain’t Fair,’ which to me sounds like Tom Petty or Bob Dylan. And then you’ve got a song like ‘Longneck Way to Go,’ which is us doing our Jackson Browne thing.”
Thinking about the wide range of sounds and the vibe of The Last Resort: Greetings From, Mark says, “The album really is like the soundtrack to a wild weekend at The Last Resort. It’s like going on vacation.”
