(AUDIO) MIDLAND’S SONGWRITING YIELDS EMOTIONALLY VERSATILE SONGS

CURRENT SINGLE – “Sunrise Tells the Story”

If you listen to a lot of Midland’s music, you might notice that a lot of their songs can be interpreted in multiple ways and enjoyed by people going through a variety of situations.  Lead guitarist Jess Carson says, “I think that’s a product of three different voices who have three different backgrounds.”

Cameron Duddy, who plays bass in Midland would like to think part of the reason their songs are so versatile is because of great songwriting.  He says, “There’s no conscious effort when we sit down, and go, this needs to be a song that you can play when you’re happy and you’re sad. They happen to be those types of songs, thankfully, because we have set a standard for ourselves and parameters, that we don’t just settle for any old thing.”

Rarely does Midland bang out a song without a lot of thought and craftsmanship going into the lyrics, which is why Cameron says, “There are a ton of songs that we have kicking around that just some will make the cut and some won’t.”

One that did make the cut is their latest single, which Jess Carson co-wrote with Aaron Raitiere and Jessi Alexander.
