Payton Smith has known since he was five years old that he wanted to be a country music singer, and as he’s gotten older, one of the things he’s grown to love are the pillars upon which country music is built. Payton says, “I have several family members that were in the Marines. Actually my step grandfather was a Marine in Vietnam, and so much of the root of country music is paying tribute to the men and women who make those sacrifices. That’s such a huge part of country music – God family and country.”
So, for Payton, pursuing his dream of country music, and focusing on those pillars that make country music great, is one way that he is able to pay tribute to people like his step grandfather and his uncle, who were in the Marines, and other members of our military. “So not only being able to support them but to also support every other man and woman fighting in the military as well,” says Payton, “(Is) really, really an amazing thing.”
Payton’s debut single, “Like I Knew You Would,” is at radio now, and you can hear even more of his music by checking out his self-titled EP, which is available wherever you stream or download music.
Payton Smith – Memorial Day :39
“I have several family members that were in the Marines. Actually my step grandfather was a Marine in Vietnam, and so much of the root of country music is paying tribute to the men and women who make those sacrifices. That’s such a huge part of country music – God family and country. And it’s very much focused around that so, the fact that I get to have the opportunity to go and write those kind of songs not only for my grandfather, but also my uncle who was in the Marines, as well as several other people in my family who were in the military. So not only being able to support them but to also support every other man and woman fighting in the military as well. So it’s really, really an amazing thing.”
